Marina Bay Sands Hotel infinity pool over Singapore

Some of life’s simple luxuries are downright cool and some are simply awe-inspiring, and then there are those that give us goose-bumps and test our vertigo to the limit. Enter: The Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore and its rooftop infinity pool.

The $5.95 billion hotel finally opened its doors in June and is being touted as the world’s most expensive hotel, but that’s not the purpose behind this pampering. The hotel’s main attraction is a 650-foot wide infinity pool situated at the 55th floor of the hotel, making it the largest outdoor pool in the world that high. The pool’s water spills over into a catchment and then recycles the water back into the hotel’s main pool area. [...]

My dream holiday in Brazil

My girlfriend and I are forever trying to do things for each other to surprise one another. It has almost got to a childish point where it is more like one up manship than anything else, but when she pulled her latest stunt I didn’t mind at all! Last year I had surprised her by taking her skiing over Christmas, and we stayed in a perfect little log cabin for the week. It was a perfect weekend and she told me on the last night that she would better it within six months! We had a laugh about it at the time but I knew that she would go all out to try and do better than me!

Not surprisingly six months later she came to me with a cheeky little grin on her face. She had been secretly saving up her money and she had managed to book us flights to Brazil over my birthday! She had arranged for us to see a football match while we were there, and we would be staying in a four star hotel in Rio! I couldn’t believe she had managed to do this, and although I was obviously pleased, I was already thinking how on earth would I be able to better this!

I asked her how she had managed it and she told me that she had just had a look around online and found these really cheap flights to Brazil, and once they were paid for, everything else was relatively affordable! I couldn’t believe it but I wasn’t about to start complaining – I had always wanted to go to Brazil!

Own a mountain village in New Zealand!

Budding real estate moguls listen up, as I’ve got quite the deal for you. The New Zealand mountain village of Otira is up for sale, and is currently seeking new ownership. The asking price of NZ$1 million (roughly $690,000) gets you all kinds of amenities, including a hotel, town hall, fire station, and 18 houses, although the location may be ideal for everyone.

Otira is located at an altitude of 3445 feet in a remote corner of New Zealand’s Southern Alps. The mountains offer a beautifully scenic backdrop and a near by national park provides plenty of outdoor adventure. But in the winter months, heavy snow can hit the region, and the little town is regularly cut-off from the outside world, sometimes for days at a time, thanks to an untimely blizzard.

The village boasts a population of just 44 residents, most of whom rent the houses that are found there. Many of those work for the TranzAlpine railway which rolls through town twice a day, bringing tourists to the area. The local hotel, which is not much more than a bed and breakfast, is the only place to stay for miles around, and offers up a hot meal and a cold pint of beer to wash it down with. The fire station has been re-purposed as a workshop for the local mechanic, and the school hall has been abandoned for more than a decade.

The current owners, Bill and Christine Hennah, bought the town back in 1998, and have been running, and renovating, it ever since. They are now approaching retirement age, and although they have no plans to leave Otira, the do feel it is time to pass it along to a new owner. They have listed the town on the New Zealand auction site Trade Me, where you can place your bids for this prime piece of real estate.
